SMART

Overview

The Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) is southeast Michigan's regional transportation provider serving Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. The agency originally operated as the Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority (SEMTA) from 1967 to 1989. Today the agency operates 46 bus routes including FAST Woodward, FAST Michigan, and FAST Gratiot, which provide limited-stop service between the City of Detroit and the suburbs. SMART also operates an advanced-reservation, curb-to-curb ADA paratransit service for qualifying disabled riders as required by federal law. SMART’s newest service is Flex , on-demand microtransit operated by Via Transportation in select cities.

SMART and DDOT have a unified payment system, DART, which offers 4 hours of unlimited rides on both systems, in any direction, for $2; 24-hour, 7-day, and 31-day passes are also available for purchase at the Buhl Building, the Royal Oak Transit Center, select retail outlets, online via mail, or digitally via the Token Transit mobile applicationToken Transit mobile application
