Metro Detroit Bus Service Changes, January 2025

By popular demand, FAST Michigan will now serve Michigan Central Station.

Happy New Year, Metro Detroit! Here's a quick overview of this month's upcoming bus service changes.

SMART

Service changes take effect on Monday, January 6th.

Major changes

🚂 A new stop on FAST Michigan at 14th Street outside Michigan Central will serve the restaurants, shops, and park space in and around the newly restored station.

🕙 Weekday service hours on Route 730 have been extended with a new morning trip and multiple new evening trips. The last eastbound departure from Telegraph is now 10:44pm, and the last westbound departure from Mack & Moross is now 8:40pm with two additional short runs to Royal Oak at 9:40pm and 10:40pm.

🚘 Route 805 will return to the newly improved Beck Road Park & Ride lot off I-96 on the border of Novi and Wixom. This commuter-oriented route provides express trips into Downtown Detroit from Wixom, Novi, and Farmington on weekday mornings and return service on weekday afternoons.

Additional changes

The recent addition of the much-requested FAST Woodward stop at McNichols/Six Mile has now been formalized in the GTFS. Starting Monday, it will appear in trip planning apps and will have an onboard announcement.

Other routing changes around Lakeside Mall and in Taylor which recently went into effect will be formalized Monday, as well as some minor schedule adjustments across the board to improve reliability.

DDOT

Service changes take effect on Monday, January 20th.

DDOT's service changes include a number of frequency enhancements , most notably on Woodward with buses on Route 4 arriving every 12 minutes during the day on weekdays. Routes 2, 5, and 31 will now see 20-minute peak frequency on weekdays.

Additionally, Route 4 will now start and end closer to the Rosa Parks Transit Center downtown. Watch for official service alerts closer to the date.
